2012-13 Contenders #250 Kyrie Irving PSA 10 | Target Price: $500
Kyrie’s Contenders are a steal in my opinion. We talk about the trickle-down effect on Daily Upside and we see it happening with sets such as Select Courtside and Immaculate… It’s just a matter of time before it happens with Contenders.
Right now, the only strong Contenders Rookie Auto from 2012-13 is Anthony Davis’s (as Kawhi has dropped in value), what we see from him is that his Contenders is around the same price point as his Prizm PSA 10… not his Prizm Silver, but his Prizm PSA 10. I personally think that’s too cheap, but if this trend continues then that means Kyrie’s Contenders PSA 10 should be at least $800.
Now, the PSA 10 is somewhat hard to find, so I’ve been buying the BGS 9.5 copies for $300, which is a fair market value as his BGS 9.5 Prizm seems to go for the same amount.
In the future, I think this peg to Prizm breaks, Contenders rookie autos of modern-day players go for about 5x the value of the player’s Prizm PSA 10. Many think the lack of on-card autographs will hurt the product, but I don’t think the market is paying that much attention to these types of details, as few are in it for the autograph anyway.
2017-18 Prizm #1 Markelle Fultz PSA 10 | Target Price: $95
If you scroll down below, you’ll see a “High-Risk Investment” tier and I’m sure there are a few of you who think Markelle belongs there. To a certain extent, yes, but one thing about Markelle is that he really can’t go any lower (I mean, he can, but you know what I mean), thus, he really isn’t really a high-risk.
Here we have a #1 pick with a starting PG position, selling for under $100! There are 23-year-old bench players selling for more than that. Markelle basically played his rookie seasons last year and his stats of 12 and 5 weren’t horrible.
What’s different about this year? This is his first year entering the seasons healthy and he’s on a team that’s desperate for scoring. Those 12ppg may not impress you, but let’s not forget Markelle put up 23.2ppg back in college.
If he reaches his full potential, then I think you can put him in the same category as SGA and Ja Morant, in fact, he’s a hybrid between those 2 players. He has the cadence of SGA, but the athleticism of Ja.
Do I think Fultz will be a superstar? No. An all-star? Maybe. But that’s not why I’m buying him. I don’t need him to shock the world, I just need him to show that he can possibly can in order to make a profit.
Remember Michael Porter Jr.? I said the same thing about him last year, all it took was 3 solid games out the gate for me to 3x. At $95 per Prizm… I really like Markelle.
2017-18 Select Concourse Silver #11 Donovan Mitchell PSA 10 | Target Price: $550
I mentioned this earlier, but I’m going to mention it here again for you guys. The cards that I list above, are just the cards that I’m most interested in, but the analysis really applies to most of the player’s cards.
Donovan Mitchell Select Silver isn’t cheap, he’s cheap across the board. However, there is something about his Select Silver that I like a lot and that’s the fact that it’s his only Select card. Why? I’m not sure, but unlike Jayson Tatum, Trae and Luka… Spida doesn’t have a Courtside Rookie.
Initially, I was going to place his Prizm here, I have no reason to believe Donovan can’t dominate next year. Did you see him in the bubble? He put up 36ppg over 7 games, with 5 and 5 splits on rebounds and assist. He has the ability to take over and he possesses something that most players don’t… Pride.
Donovan Mitchell isn’t okay with losing! Does that necessarily mean he’ll win a championship? No, but the last 2 players to play with as much emotion as he has have won MVP awards. Not sure who I’m talking about… Giannis and Westbrook.
With all this information, I was convinced that the Prizm was a play, if cards continue to move forward, as we expect them too, then who’s safer than Donovan? He’s inexpensive compared to Tatum, Luka, Trae, and Devin Booker, but he has just as much firepower as them and if we’re being really honest, he’s probably better equipped to lead his team to another playoff run.
So yeah, in a world of saturated sports cards Donovan doesn’t have many, at least when it comes to Select Silver. At a price point of $550 and a POP report of 53 Donovan Mitchell’s Select Silver is a steal. It reminds me of Jamal Murray’s Select rookie cards, while he has a Courtside he only a limited amount of each tier is gem-mint, this has made them extremely valuable compared to the rest of his class.
